Loved by the Little Ones

“Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.”

How much Geoff loves the children in his life! And how much they love him!

A compassionate initiative resulted from the dismal outlook a few days ago, the doctors suggested that each family member, grandchildren included, visit very soon - an unexpected blessing in these times of restriction.

Thankfully the wonderful improvement of Thursday continued, enabling Geoff to enjoy some very special time with the little ones. To their delight, he even managed a few rounds of Uno

Inspired by their visits, Geoff’s rejuvenated mind clicked into overdrive as he described ideas for marvellous additions to our home ‘adventure’ playground.

The grandchildren’s chalk artwork covering our driveway was such a lovely and fitting way to welcome Grandad home.

Our youngest grandchild’s contentment reminded me of the many baptisms when Geoff gently received youngsters from their trusting parents. Even his generous splashes of water rarely disturbed the babes cradled in his arms as though they could sense being in a place of safety and love.

Returning the love to their pastor, the children’s gifts and book of letters and drawings provided a safe anchor in the troubled sea. As I read to Geoff the beautiful words from their hearts, the storm in his mind calmed and gave us hope for better days.

“Thank you for being a loving leader and a good friend to us."
“I love how easy to talk to you’ve always been, and how you never talk down to kids but always talk like we’re equals.”
“My favorite kids talk would probably be the one where you had the toy dragon and breathed fire! I remember you were talking about the dragon in revelation!”
“I like your sermons on Leviticus.”
“You have made a huge impact on my beliefs, morals and values which all made me the person I am today.”
“I remember the children’s talk on my birthday when you gave me a present. It was very special.”
“You were giving everyone who asked wizzy dizzies or putting them on your motorbike and engaging with them.”
“Thank you for putting so much effort into us children.”

Adding to the memories of favourite children’s talks, more tearful moments came during A recorded virtual visit full of amusing anecdotes and personal encouragement from one precious family.
